If you’re a Canadian seller, you may notice a banner on your account that says:
Some of your items can’t be purchased in the U.S. Update your shipping settings to make them available.
Due to the suspension of the de minimis exemption on August 29, 2025, you need to update your shipping settings in order for them to be discovered / purchased by US buyers.
How to Fix It
- Go to to your locker.
- Click Edit listing.
- Scroll to the Shipping section.
- Select "Use My Own Label".
- Enter your own shipping rates (see instructions below).
- Click Save
Once your items are updated, they will automatically appear in results for US buyers. Once all items are updated, the banner will disappear (this can take up to two hours).
How to Determine Your Shipping Rates
You will set different shipping rates in case the item ships to Canada or the United States. The buyer will pay this amount at checkout.
- Your US shipping rate should include your estimated shipping cost + your expected tariff.
- For help determining your shipping rate to the United States, use this tool.
- You may also need to account for tariffs. These should be included in the US Shipping Price.
- Tariffs vary based on country of origin and raw material. Items manufactured in the United States, Canada or Mexico are usually eligible for a USMCA exemption (no tariff) if they are shipped with a private carrier and you provide the correct documentation.

Suggested Carriers for Shipments from Canada to US
SidelineSwap only supports carriers that collect tariffs up front. This prevents buyers from being charged with unexpected fees when the item arrives at their door. You should include the cost of tariffs in the shipping cost you set on your item (see section above).
| Carrier | What to know |
| Chit Chats | Low shipping costs (via USPS) and exempt from tariffs if the item is manufactured in the US, Canada or Mexico. |
| FedEx | Express offers the fastest delivery but it's usually more expensive than ChitChats or CanadaPost. Exempt from tariffs if manufactured in the US, Canada or Mexico. |
| Purolator | Broad Canadian coverage with U.S. delivery through Purolator International; usually pricier than ChitChats or Canada Post. |
What to do after your item sells
Once your item sells, follow these steps to ship your item.
Tips for Sellers
- If you want your items available to U.S. buyers, always use “Use My Own Label” with a supported carrier that allows tariffs/taxes to be prepaid.
- If you only want to sell within Canada, you can continue using SidelineSwap labels—just note those items won’t be visible to U.S. buyers.
