SidelineSwap is a great place to buy and sell new or used hockey sticks. Below are some tips to help you ship your stick safely and efficiently.
Materials You'll Need
- Two Triangular Shipping tubes (about 6" x 6" x 38"), available at FedEx or included with a USPS Priority Mail label.
- Bubble wrap can be purchased at your local post office, office supply store and most dollar/discount stores.
- Quality packing tape, available at FedEx or available at any office supply store or general merchandise store (i.e. Target, Walmart)
Bubblewrap your package
- Lie the stick on the floor and tear a strip of bubble wrap that is a few inches longer than the stick. Wrap the piece of bubble wrap (bubble side in) around the stick and secure with a piece of hockey tape. Continue down the stick until you've wrapped the entire stick. Wrap the blade of the stick with an extra layer of bubble wrap for extra protection.
- Since the bubble wrap will be the extent of the packaging, be sure to wrap the entire stick at with at least three layers of bubble wrap. For the blade of the stick, wrap with an extra layer of bubble wrap for more protection.
- Tape the stick well and ensure that there aren't any loose areas of bubble wrap.
- Place your shipping labels on the stick and ship the stick to its new owner!
Ship with a mailing tube
- Lie the stick on the floor and tear a strip of bubble wrap that is a few inches longer than the stick. Wrap the piece of bubble wrap (bubble side in) around the stick and secure with a piece of hockey tape. Continue down the stick until you've wrapped the entire stick. Wrap the blade of the stick with an extra layer of bubble wrap for extra protection.
- Open your triangular shipping tubes and place one on top of the other so that they're overlapping 10-15 inches. Remove the sticky part of the box underneath and stick the other box on top of it.
- Place the stick in the middle of the box with the blade side on the inside box and the handle on the outside box.
- Mark where the blade of the stick will be and fold the box so that it creases in the direction of the blade and doesn't cause the blade to bend backwards. Fold the flaps over flat and be careful with the blade area and fold the box in the direction of the blade as needed.
- Add packaging tape around the entire box. Add extra tape to the areas where the boxes stick together with the adhesive included with the box. Finally, add more tape to the ends of the box to ensure the stick doesn't slip out of either end.
- Write "Fragile" in large letters a few times on the front and back of the box. Write "This side up" with arrows pointing towards the area of the box where the blade is.
- Place your shipping labels on the package and ship the stick to its new owner!
