The U.S. eliminated its $800 de minimis exemption on August 29, 2025. As a result, shipments from Canada to the U.S. may be subject to tariffs or import fees, regardless of order value.
For SidelineSwap-supported Canada to U.S. shipments, any applicable tariff cost is paid up front. These shipments are sent Delivered Duty Paid, also known as DDP.
Which carriers does SidelineSwap use?
SidelineSwap currently supports two carriers for Canada to U.S. shipments:
- Chit Chats
- FedEx
Chit Chats handles the majority of these shipments, and SidelineSwap is working with Chit Chats to expand coverage for more Canadian sellers.
What does DDP mean?
DDP means duties and taxes are paid before delivery.
For U.S. buyers purchasing from Canadian sellers who use SidelineSwap-supported shipping, this means:
- Any applicable tariff should be paid up front
- The buyer should not receive a tariff bill at delivery
- The carrier should not hold the package while waiting for the buyer to pay import fees
Who determines tariff amounts?
Tariffs are determined by U.S. Customs, not SidelineSwap or the seller.
Tariff amounts depend on:
- The item’s country of manufacture
- Whether the item qualifies for USMCA treatment
- The item’s customs classification
- The item’s material composition
- The declared value of the item
